Culture and History when Camping in Normandy

As one of the most Northern regions of France, Normandy is one of the closest and most accessible parts of the country for British campers. Particularly in the summer, the weather is perfect for a HomeCamper continental getaway!

As well as enjoy the contemporary surroundings of beaches and pastoral countryside, visitors to Normandy will find an area of France rich in history. The Bayeux Tapestry details the Norman Conquest of England in Medieval times, and the Normandy Beaches remain a powerful reminder of military sacrifices in the Second World War.

The historic maritime city of Le Havre hosts a variety of cultural events, and was recognised in 2005 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As well as its impressive cathedral, a plethora of museums celebrate the writers, artists, musicians and architects with strong connections to the city. Did you know that Monet’s Impression, Sunrise, was painted in the Port of Le Havre in the 1870’s and founded the entire Impressionism art movement?!
